Duty of care: what SMEs get wrong about business travel risk
By Amelia Hart · 6 July 2026 · 5 min read

You do not need an enterprise risk platform. You do need to know where your people are.
Duty of care is often treated as a large-company problem. It is not — the legal obligation is the same at fifteen employees as at fifteen thousand.
Know where everyone is. If a traveller books direct on a personal card, you have no record. Centralised booking solves this in one step.
Have a real out-of-hours number. An inbox monitored in office hours is not emergency support.
Brief before departure. A two-paragraph destination note covering local emergency numbers, transport advice and any current advisories is enough for most trips.
Test it once a year. Pick a traveller at random and see how quickly you could reach them.
